Monaco On A Budget
Of course, we all want to go to Monaco and be able to shop whatever we want, eat whatever we want, and gamble whatever we want, but sometimes that is just not in the cards for us. Just because you are on a budget doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the lush landscape and exquisite architecture. Here is your favorite blog post on how to enjoy Monaco without breaking the bank.
First, we stayed in a shared AirBnB for a great price and a central location. I preferred staying in Monaco so I could just walk everywhere and didn’t have to deal with trains or driving. It is very easy to get to South France from Monaco though and if you are on a budget, you may want to consider staying in one of the surrounding towns. Here is our AirBnB for reference.
Next, food and drinks. Especially if you are in an Airbnb you can always use the kitchen there and get fresh foods at the market. The markets in Monaco also have freshly made sandwiches, cakes, and other various foods/drinks for a fraction of the price. We always enjoy eating out but if you are on a budget, only enjoy one meal out. You can find some pretty reasonably priced places too, so do your research. We had dinner at Brasserie De Monaco, it was right on the water and was very reasonably priced. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was fun and flirty.
As far as sightseeing Monaco, you can definitely do this on a budget.
I would suggest going to Monaco Old Town which will have beautiful panoramic views of the city. Grab your camera because these pictures are going to be incredible. We just walked here, definitely the most budget-friendly option but you can also use taxis to get around Monaco. The old town is going to be located on the western part at the Port De Fontvielle and it is also located very high up so be prepared if you are walking it. The Palace of the Prince is also going to be located in Old Town. Besides that and the views, you will also find amazing souvenir shops, St Nicholas Cathedral, and The Oceanographic Museum.
I loved the Oceanographic Museum and thought it was worth every 14 euros I spent on it. It is basically like any other Museum but I would say the two things that made it super special were the view and restaurant at the top of the Museum and the outdoor sea turtle tank. I would suggest doing this fun activity but if you are on a budget and aren’t interested in it, it may be something to skip. At the top of the Museum though is a rooftop with jaw-dropping panoramic views of Monaco.
Something I will not allow you to skip is the Monaco Tour Train. This train is the perfect way to see all the beautiful landmarks and buildings that Monaco has to offer. It is only 10 euros and is worth every bit of it. The train leaves from outside in front of the Oceanographic Museum, there you will also be able to buy the tickets. For the tour, you do get a headset to listen to the guide and it comes in 12 different languages. You will be able to see major landmarks like the Grand Prix starting line, the Monte Carlo Casino, the Hotel de Paris, and the exclusive Yacht Club. You can also get off of the train at any time. After we saw everything we wanted to, we got off the train at the Monaco Yacht Club.
To end the day, we enjoyed walking by the beautiful boats and dreaming of one day owning our own. .
