Krka National Park is home to the luscious waterfalls. I have never seen more natural beauty all wrapped in the streaming flow dropping rapidly into the earth. I didn’t even know about Krka before I went to Croatia so here’s my advice to you. This is a must-see in Croatia and it makes for the perfect day trip from Split. If you didn’t know about it before, good, now you know. If you did know about it, it should now be high on your bucket list. Truly a beautiful experience.
Krka is about one hour north of Split. It is easy to get to and you can either get there by boat or car, depending on the season.
There are two different entrances and it usually depends on which season you are going. Lozovac Entrance is usually where you enter if you are driving yourself or with a tour agency. The parking lot is free and this entrance is the main entrance. Usually, this entrance is only offered in low seasons from November to March. During the high season, if you are arriving by boat or if you are arriving by bus, you will be sent to the other entrance, Skradin. This entrance is located within the town of Skradin. You then will purchase a roundtrip ticket for a bus to take you to the falls. The bus ticket includes the entrance fee to Krka.
The entrance costs about 30 USD (200 Kunas). This price also depends on the season, the high season is 200 Kunas and the low season is 150 Kunas, this price is for adults. Children under 7 are free. You can look to purchase tickets here or pay when you get there.
There are three main ways to get there, Driving, Tour Agency, Public Bus
Driving
If you decide to drive, you will have the opportunity to go and leave when you please. As stated above, when you drive you can park in the free parking lot for the Lozovac Entrance. Driving can also allow you to check out the town of Skradin or make any other stops along the way. Some places I would recommend stopping at are Primosten, Trogir, and Šibenik. I didn’t have the chance to drive because my whole trip to Croatia was through a tour company but if I were to do it again, I would drive. The roads are well kept and it is fairly easy to get to and from. If you do drive, I would suggest getting to the park as early as possible to beat the crowds, especially during the high season.
Tour Agency
I went to Krka National Park through a tour agency. If you are a student or young adult studying or living abroad, I would highly suggest looking into the Bus2Alps tour company. They are incredible and have the best trips. I had some of my favorite abroad experiences on their trips.
Tour companies may offer an entire guided tour or just the shuttle service. Sometimes, it is nice to pay for a tour and not have to worry about the tiny details along the way.
Public Bus
You can take a bus from either the Split bus station or at the airport. The bus station in Split is located near the cruise and train stations. It can be up to a two-hour bus ride and the price of tickets can get expensive.
Go as early as possible (right when they open) to beat the crowds. This trip is a fun summertime trip, especially if you want to swim. If you do want to swim, bring a change of clothes so you aren’t wet and uncomfortable the whole rest of the day. I would suggest bringing comfortable walking shoes in case you want to hike around or tour the surrounding city, Skradin. I hope you have the best time EVER and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors!
