One
One thing you must do whether you like shopping or not is go to the Feira da Ladra or “Thieves Market”. It is an amazing outdoor market that has hand-made artisan goods, clothes, books, antiques, and many more. We stumbled upon this market by accident, but it is every Tuesday and Saturday from 8 AM to early afternoon. This outdoor market was first mentioned in the 17th century and is a historical part of Lisbon. It is located in Campo de Santa Clara Alfama. This is where I had the most incredible salmon of my life!
Two
If you are spending your time in Lisbon when it’s nice out, you have to take a trip to the Cascais. It is a beautiful beach town with a beautiful beach. You can expect to enjoy the hot sun and beautiful sea. To get there, you can take a train from Cais do Sodre train station and it takes around 30 mins. The cost roundtrip is around 8 euros. Something I would suggest if you are spending a long period in Lisbon is to spend a night or a couple in Cascais. I wish I could have enjoyed this quaint town for a bit longer than just a day trip.
Three
You must take Tram number 28 because it goes through all of Lisbon and is an inexpensive way to sightsee everything. We stayed on the whole time but you have the option to get off if there is anywhere that interests you. I wouldn’t even suggest taking it the whole way because the end was way farther away from the start. To do this activity, you start at the Martim Moniz stop. Expect there to be long lines as it is a major tourist attraction and is also used by locals as a main transportation source. It though, is a great way to see much of the city in an hour. The mornings or evenings are best because the lines are only short at those times. A single purchase ticket costs around 3 euros and a 24-hour metro ticket costs 7 euros and can be purchased at any metro station.
Four
Walking distance from our AirBnB located near the Martim Moniz square, is the Castelo de S. Jorge. It is open seven days a week and is a truly exquisite castle. Before entering, you can explore the Moorish neighborhood and when inside you will be able to see beautiful views of the city as well as learn about the culture.
Five
Lastly, if you are a foodie you have to visit the Time Out Market. It has a range of different styles of foods, some traditional Portuguese and some from all over the world. All the food is provided by renowned Portuguese Chefs. Like most other markets, it is a seat-yourself style and set-up vendor style. If you go on an empty stomach, be prepared for a tough decision as all the food looked and smelt amazing.
