Exploring Key West: A Guide to the Perfect Family Getaway
Our family recently, back in February, went on an unforgettable adventure exploring Key West. We were excited for out trip as it is a tropical paradise nestled at the southernmost point of the United States. After enduring the chilly February temperatures in Connecticut, we were ready for a warm, sunny escape, and Key West promised just that. Known for its stunning weather, vibrant nightlife, and easy accessibility, it was the perfect destination for our and possibly your family getaway. Key West, with its blend of American familiarity and tropical allure, offered an ideal balance for our winter escape. We couldn’t wait to explore the island’s historic sights and lively cultural scene. Whether you’re planning your own winter getaway or simply dreaming of warm, sun-drenched days, our story is sure to inspire your next adventure.
The Perfect Key West Family Guide
How to Get There
Getting to Key West was an adventure in itself. We flew a direct flight into Miami International Airport (MIA) and rented a van for the drive. However, this option wasn’t ideal due to heavy traffic, making the drive almost 4-5 hours long. Another option is to take a connecting flight from Miami to Key West, which takes only about 20 minutes.
Where to Stay
Our family stayed at the Lighthouse Inn, a charming boutique hotel right in the heart of downtown Key West. We absolutely loved this spot because it was so charming and convenient. Being in the middle of all the downtown action, we were able to immerse ourselves in the vibrant atmosphere of Key West. The hotel’s quaint, intimate setting made it feel more like an Airbnb, yet we each had our own rooms. This was perfect because we are all older. The pool was a great addition, providing a refreshing escape from the heat after a day of exploring. The Lighthouse Inn truly offered the best of both worlds – the comfort and privacy of separate rooms with the cozy, communal feel of a smaller property.
Another fantastic option for families is the Casa Marina Key West, A Waldorf Astoria Resort. This historic hotel is located right on the beach. Plus, it has a luxurious yet family-friendly experience. With spacious rooms and suites, multiple pools, and direct beach access, it’s perfect for families looking to relax and enjoy the sun. The resort also provides various activities such as water sports, bike rentals, and a kids’ club, ensuring that everyone in the family has something fun to do.
