Destin Florida Travel Guide

From the moment Duston and I went to Destin, we fell in love. If you haven’t been to the Emerald Coast yet, it is a treat you sure are missing. We will always have a special place in our hearts as it was where we had our first vacation. The green waters and pure white sand is incredible. It is a hidden gem of the United States and honestly my favorite part of Florida.

When To Visit

So it is still Florida in the sence that it gets way too hot in the summer to be enjoyable. However, it does get quite cold in the winter as well. By cold, I mean not swimming weather. In the springtime around February or March, you will see a lot of rain. So your best bet will be either April, May, or October. I suggest October because there is winter pricing while still having great weather (not too hot, not too cold).

Where to stay

The Henderson Hotel $$$

This hotel is definitely on the expensive side but for good reason. It is beautiful and has just about everything you need. Plus it sits a very close walk down to the beach. It is a boutique hotel that screams classy.

Emerald Grande Destin Hotel $$

This hotel is more on the expensive side but it is located conveniently on Destin’s Boardwalk which gives you a lot of places to eat and things to do. Plus if you do want to go to the beach, the boat you over.

Airbnb $

If you are looking to save money your best bet might be renting a shared room in a house. There are many different Airbnb options with all different pricing.

Things To Do

Rent a Jetski, Boat, or do a Tiki Boat

Whatever you do, the point is to get on the water. It is simply the most beautiful coast and will treat you well. If you do any of these, I suggest going to crab island for some fun in the sun. Crab Island is a sandbar that locals tie up their boats at while enjoying the sunshine.

Destin Boardwalk

Destin Boardwalk

We love the boardwalk, it is one of our favorites. You can find fishing tournaments, fun food spots, places to grab a drink, and many carnival-style activities. It is so fun and is something you can either spend your whole day at or end your day with.

Go to the beach

If you skip any of these activities, don’t let it be this. The sand is like any you ever have seen. It is so beautiful against the emerald water. Here are some great beaches to visit in Destin: Henderson Beach State Park, James Lee Beach, June White Decker Park.

Walk Through Fort Walton Downtown

Only a ten-minute drive from Destin is downtown, Fort Walton. It has some cute shopping or food places with cute architecture. I would suggest going to Burrito Del Sol for bomb food.

Go Snorkeling

I love snorkeling so I always have to take advantage of tropical places that offer a lot to see. I would suggest going through Destin Snorkel for a full experience.
