Where to Eat in Mystic, CT: Date Nights to Kid-Friendly Patios

Mystic, Connecticut is my favorite coastal town where the food is just as much a part of the trip as the views, shopping, and walking around downtown. If you’re planning a summer weekend in Mystic, a date night by the water, a family day near Olde Mistick Village, or a casual dinner after visiting Mystic Aquarium or Mystic Seaport, there are so many good places to eat depending on the kind of vibe you’re looking for.

This guide is not meant to be every single restaurant in Mystic. It’s more of the list I would send to a friend asking, “Where should we actually eat?” I’m breaking it down by mood — boujee date night, waterfront views, casual dinner, kid-friendly restaurants, and the best breakfast, coffee, and sweet stops.

So if you’re wondering where to eat in Mystic, CT, here are some of my favorite restaurants and the places I’d recommend depending on your trip.

Boujee / Date Night

Oyster Club

A classic Mystic pick for a more elevated dinner. I’d describe this as the place for oysters, cocktails, seasonal dishes, and a special night out without it feeling overly formal. It’s got a fun feel to it and is right in downtown Mystic. It is a top rated option if you’re looking for one of the best date-night restaurants in Mystic, CT. I haven’t actually eaten here, but it has been a crowd favorite for a while.

The Shipwright’s Daughter

The Shipwright’s Daughter is one of Mystic’s most special dining experiences, especially if you’re looking for a chef-driven dinner that feels connected to the Connecticut coast. Led by James Beard Award-winning chef David Standridge, the restaurant focuses on sustainable seafood, local farms, and a true tide-to-table approach. They also offer happy hour, which is worth checking out if you want to try snacks, oysters, and drinks without doing a full dinner. This is what we did, and we were able to try a bunch of different options for a fraction of the price. Since the menu changes often, I’d check their current menu or Instagram before going.

For a more special night out, The Shipwright’s Daughter also offers a chef’s tasting menu, which turns dinner into more of an experience. It’s a great option if you want the meal itself to be one of the highlights of your Mystic trip and don’t mind paying a little bit more in price.

Jeremiah’s Restaurant & Tavern

Jeremiah’s Restaurant & Tavern is one of Mystic’s newer date-night options. It has an elevated restaurant upstairs and a casual tavern downstairs. It is personally my new favorite restaurant in Mystic, and while I would love to gatekeep it, I also want to give it the recognition it deserves. I’d choose the upstairs dining room for a quieter dinner with cocktails, steak, seafood, and river-view charm, or the tavern if you want something a little more relaxed before or after walking around downtown Mystic. We did bring our toddler to the upstairs restaurant and were able to order anything off the tavern menu, which is great if you have anyone like my husband who enjoys more of the bar-food-style options.

Port of Call

Port of Call is the Mystic spot I’d choose when I want the night to feel a little more fun and stylish. It’s not necessarily the quietest romantic dinner spot, but it’s perfect for cocktails, a girls’ night, or a date night that turns into drinks after dinner.

It definitely has a styled, cocktail-forward feel, which makes it a unique option than the classic seafood restaurant that most of Mystic offers. I’d put this on the list for anyone who wants a fun night out in downtown Mystic, especially if you’re looking for drinks, small plates, and a more edgy atmosphere.

Han Tang Palace

Han Tang Palace is the new and talked-about spot in Mystic. They offer an omakase experience for anyone who wants something different. I’d put this on the list for a special night out, a date night, or anyone who loves sushi and wants to try one of Mystic’s newer dining additions. While I haven’t been, I have only heard great things and can’t wait to try it!

Best Restaurants With Waterfront Views in Mystic

S&P Oyster Restaurant and Bar

This is definitely a restaurant that is great for date night or if you want a waterfront view. S&P is one of our favorites, and word on the street is that it is also one of Taylor Swift’s favorites as well. What’s great is that they have an outdoor patio with views of the Mystic River and an indoor dining room that also has water views. We end up going here during the winter a ton too. This restaurant is not very kid-friendly, to the point that they don’t even offer high chairs. We have still gone with our daughter and brought a portable high chair, but ultimately, especially inside, it is higher-end, has tighter tables, and no kids’ menu, making it not ideal for children.

Red 36

Red 36 is another one of our favorites, more for the ambiance than anything. There are a lot of people who complain about Red 36’s food, but I don’t think it’s terrible. You, however, definitely come here for the vibe, drinks, and water views. It is great for a relaxed waterfront meal, seafood, raw bar, drinks, and a group that wants options (the menu has a lot of options). Red 36 is also right on the Mystic River — you can dock your boat if you come by boat — and it has iconic views of the Mystic River railroad bridge.

Mix Rooftop Restaurant & Bar

Mix is one of my favorite picks if you want the Mystic River views but with a rooftop cocktail-and-dinner feel. It’s located above Sift, so it’s perfect for a girls’ night, date night, or anyone who wants a slightly more styled Mystic dining experience. The seating feels a little more intimate and lounge-like than a traditional restaurant, so I’d recommend it more for drinks, small plates, or a fun night out rather than a big casual family dinner. When my friends came down for about an hour’s visit, we went to mix for a cocktail and good views.

Best Casual Dinner Spots in Mystic

Engine Room

This is definitely a spot you go to if you want to watch a game or love a good burger. It’s still great for a casual dinner, burgers, drinks, and an easy but good meal. At night, it can definitely be full of people partying, so I’d keep that in mind depending on the vibe you’re looking for.

The Treehouse at Oyster Club

The Treehouse at Oyster Club is such a fun casual dinner option because it still feels very Mystic, but in a more relaxed, tucked-away way — in an actual treehouse. I’d pick this for an easy summer dinner, drinks, and that cozy outdoor atmosphere. It’s definitely one of the most unique restaurants in town. It’s a restaurant where you stand in line to order drinks and dinner, and then they deliver it to your table, which can sometimes make it difficult to find a table. It also has a livelier atmosphere.

 The Mariner

The Mariner is a classic Mystic restaurant that works for almost any kind of trip. We ended up there after walking around downtown. You will find seafood, drinks, lobster rolls, pasta, a cozy atmosphere, and enough options that everyone can find something they want. It’s not trying too hard to be trendy or overly upscale, which I liked.

The Mariner

Via Emilia

Via Emilia has the cutest interior, with the first floor feeling tiny and quaint but with more seating upstairs. After many seafood-heavy meals in Mystic, it is a nice change to sit down for fresh pasta, wine, and a dinner that feels cozy but not overly fancy. I’d recommend it for a relaxed date night or dinner with family when you want something comforting. The homemade pasta was definitely the highlight for me.

Best Kid-Friendly Restaurants in Mystic

Jealous Monk

Jealous Monk is one of my favorite kid-friendly picks because it’s in Olde Mistick Village, so you can eat, walk around, shop, and make it feel like more than just a meal. It has a beer garden feel for the adults, but the casual atmosphere, games, and outdoor space make it easier with kids. This is a great option if you’re looking for kid-friendly restaurants in Mystic, CT, especially near the shops and attractions in Olde Mistick Village.

Milestone

Milestone is another great kid-friendly option because it’s casual, has a patio, and works well if you’re coming from Mystic Aquarium or Mystic Seaport. It feels like an easy lunch or early dinner spot where you don’t have to overthink it. It feels easy, fun, and relaxed, but still has good food and cocktails for the adults.

Dog Watch Mystic

Dog Watch Mystic is one of the easiest kid-friendly options near Mystic if you want something casual with room to breathe. They have indoor and outdoor seating, lawn games, gardens, and a laid-back menu with BBQ, seafood, burgers, and other casual favorites — making it a great pick when you want the kids to have a little space while the adults can still enjoy a relaxed meal.

Best Breakfast, Coffee, and Sweets in Mystic

Kitchen Little

Kitchen Little is a great breakfast pick and has been one of my favorites since I was younger. It’s tucked by the Mystic River Marina, so it feels a little more relaxed and local than grabbing something right in the busiest part of town. If you’re looking for one of the best breakfast spots in Mystic, CT, this is a great one to add to your list.

Sift Bake Shop

Sift Bake Shop is perfect for pastries, coffee, macarons, and a pretty morning stop. It gets busy, and there is usually a line out the window during the summer season.

Sift Bake Shop

Young Buns Pop-Up

While I haven’t been to or seen the pop-up in person, CT Insider reported that Young Buns is returning as a summer pop-up next to Sift Bake Shop, open Thursday through Monday mornings through Labor Day.

Mystic Drawbridge Ice Cream

An iconic spot for some of the best ice cream in town. Grab a cone and enjoy it with a view of the Mystic River and drawbridge.

Where to Stay in Mystic

If you’re planning to turn this restaurant guide into a full Mystic weekend, I’d recommend staying somewhere close to downtown Mystic, the Mystic River, or Olde Mistick Village depending on what kind of trip you’re planning. Being close to town makes it so much easier to walk to dinner, grab coffee in the morning, shop, and enjoy the water without constantly getting back in the car.

For a more walkable trip, look near downtown Mystic or the river. If you’re visiting with kids and planning on Mystic Aquarium, Mystic Seaport, or Olde Mistick Village, staying closer to that side of town can also make the weekend feel a little easier.
