A Winter Travel Guide to Ponte di Legno, Italy

Let’s be honest, Italy in the wintertime doesn’t sound as tasty as visiting in the summer. I am here to prove you wrong, the Italian Alps are calling your name…

First of all, if you are an avid skier, snowboarder, sledder, snowmobiler, or any other winter activity, the dolomites are for you. Also, if you own the epic ski pass and have wanted to experience some of the European destinations, this blog is for you. My husband and I invested in the epic ski pass which has many different mountains all over the USA included in it. From the west coast to the northeast, they have everything. They also destinations abroad included in the pass. We decided to venture to Ponte Di Legno-Tonale ski resort because our pass included 7 days for free. Even without the pass, it is worth it to go. If you want more information on the epic pass click here or if you want to look into ski lift and pricings at the mountain click here.

How to Get There

There are a few airport options to travel into to get you the closest to PontediLegno. Firstly, Innsbruck Airport (INN) in Tyrol, Austria, Venice Airport (VCE) in Venice Italy, or Treviso Airport (TSF) in Treviso, Italy. Those 3 options work amazing but your best and possibly easiest option will be to do what we did and fly into Milan-Malpensa Airport (MXP) in Milan, Italy. This will be your closest airport and is only a 2 and a half-hour drive. You can also take the train to Edolo and transfer to a bus that takes you all the way to Ponte Di Legno. However, the drive was easy, and renting a car really wasn’t too costly. I would definitely suggest just doing the drive.

Where To Stay

This hotel is a must and I wouldn’t suggest it anywhere else because it is affordable but also very amazing. Hotel Bellavista is located directly in the center of town, within walking distance to bars, beautiful scenery, and resturants. It is also a quick 5-minute walk to the closest ski lift. If you book through their website you get a ski locker included and free self-parking. You also have the option of adding on half board to your reservation. Half board means that you will get breakfast and dinner included in the added extra price. The meals were fantastic and the chef of the hotel restaurant definitely knew what he was doing. Plus, for New Year’s Eve, we had the most amazing seven-course meal and it was still included in our half-board fee. For more information on their website, click here.

Things to Do

Go skiing or snowboarding

This is obviously a must if you are a skier or snowboarder.

Have Aperol Spritz at the Top of the Mountain

You can either take the gondola from the Ponte Di Legno side of the mountain, or you can drive up to the lifts at the Tonale section. Either way, you don’t have to be a skier to enjoy the mountain views. There were a lot of people sipping yummy drinks, enjoying the sunshine, and listening to good music. The bars at the mountain actually ended up getting pretty LIT.

Enjoy Sledding, Snowshoeing, or Cross Country Skiing

You name it, this cute little ski town has got it. Whatever your outdoor interest may be, this town is full of it all. Although we didn’t partake in any other outdoor activity besides skiing, every day we saw hikers, snowshoers, cross-country skiers. It was pretty amazing seeing so many enjoying the beautiful outdoors.

Snowmobiling
Definitely, something I will be partaking in if I ever get the chance to go back. We saw snowmobiles while we were skiing and it looked like they were having a time. For more information, click here.
Go on a Day Trip to Lake Garda
Ok, this was definitely a bit far for just a day trip but we actually really enjoyed it. The views while we were driving made the car ride worth it. About 2 and a half hours from Ponte Di Legno. You can check out my blog post here if you do decide to go.
Walk Around Ponte Di Legno

Ponte Di Legno is awesome because it is easy to walk everywhere. Especially if you are staying at Hotel Bellavista, you will be within walking distance of everything. If you take a stroll through the town you will find, shopping, cute cafes, and beautiful scenery.

Nightlife

Honestly, since all we did was eat at our hotel we didn’t experience much of the restaurant scene. However, the bars were a fun treat to go out to. Most of the bars however do include meats and cheeses with your drink and those were always so yummy. A more casual setting would be at Bar Brescia. The two other bars that get pretty rowdy are Bar Olimpic – Pub Four X and Il Clan
