Best Instagram Spots in Tulum: Things to Do

So it isn’t a secret anymore how much of a vibe Tulum is. I really can’t describe to you how perfect this cute and enchanted part of Mexico is. Don’t get me wrong though, I am a lover of all of that Mexico has to offer. But this post isn’t about Mexico and my love for that country, it’s about creating the Tulum Dream Trip with the Best Instagram Spots in Tulum.

Tulum has gone back to the basics and has created eco-friendly, boutique-style hotels. They have mixed the outdoor jungle theme with partying, good food, and a whole lot of Instagram-worthy photos. I have never experienced such a free-flowing and free-spirited place. You can let your art and creativeness out because it is judgment-free. Whether you are an artist, an influencer, an adventurer, or a beachgoer, I am about to give you the best ten things you can do and ten places you can Instagram in Tulum.

Here is to the Best Tulum Trip Ever

1. Would you even be in Mexico if you didn’t go to the beach? So I know not everyone is a beach lover but there are so many options in Tulum when it comes to a beach day. The beauty of Tulum lies in the fact that the jungle meets the white shore beaches and crystal blue water. With Tulum, you can have a relaxing beach day or you can spice it up with some cocktails and a DJ. OR you can do both! For most of the resorts that are located on the beach, you can rent a lounge chair or cabana and you just have a minimum amount you have to spend. So the chairs are free as long as you enjoy a few pina colada or a nice lunch meal. Ahau Tulum is where we went, it was a 40 USD minimum and it was a more relaxing beach day. You can also go to Papaya Playa Project Beach Club which has a DJ and is the place to be on Saturdays, they have a 50 USD minimum. Paraiso Beach Club is a more budget-friendly beach club and their lounge chairs are just 5 USD for the day. Unless you are ready for the party, I would suggest Ahau Tulum. This brings me to activity number 2 an incredible Instagram capture.

2. Raw Love Tulum. Have you been seeing that infamous sculpture of a person that has been spreading through Instagram? Yeah? Or does my description suck because I don’t even know what to call it or how to describe it? If you are still confused, I’m talking about the pictures featured below. You will want to go here for two reasons; this artwork is more epic in person and you can follow up a cute picture with an incredible açaí bowl. This is the entrance of Raw Love Tulum and it is so incredibly beautiful. Once you get that perfect picture, you can walk through the sculpture and head over to the restaurant. From there you can get anything on the menu but I would highly suggest either the açaí berry bowl, the maka-vanilla milkshake bowl, or the coconut curry. The ingredients are raw, fresh, and full of nutrients. Their milk and peanut butter are also made in-house, which to me is just a VIBE itself. This is all located at the Ahau Tulum Hotel so if I were you, I would head here and then plan on hitting the beach after. Side note, if you aren’t feeling the açaí vibes you don’t have to go into the restaurant, you can just take the epic photograph from the street and move on.

3. For adventure lovers, one thing to add to your list is the cenotes. Even if you aren’t an adventure lover it is such a unique experience. I would suggest renting a car for this especially if you want to go to a few. The only one that I would say is cheaper to take a taxi to would be the Gran Cenote, which is located about a 10-minute drive from downtown Tulum. If you do rent a car don’t forget to bring the required documents. Ya girl, aka me, made it to the rental car company just to forget her passport. By then it would have been more of a waste going back to get it. I will have to blame the Mezcal tasting and I Scream bar for my lack of functionality that day. Anyways here are some of the cenotes that are a must-see, Gran Cenote, Tak Be Ha (great snorkeling), Yaxbacaltun, and Chichuan (which is an underground cave). You really won’t be disappointed in going to one over the other, I would suggest seeing what fits best in your schedule and budget.

4. Another adventure-loving activity, that I also didn’t partake in, is visiting the Chichén Itzá ruins. If you are looking to see one of the Seven Wonders of the World, then this should be high on your list. The ruins are about a 2-hour drive from Tulum. Again, I would suggest renting a car if you don’t mind driving. The car rental for a day was about 10- 20 USD. There are also so many tour companies that can provide the transportation, on average you can expect to spend 50-70 USD on a planned group tour. There are options to private tours or even take a bus depending on where your budget is at. You will get the most epic picture here!!

5. I’m going to switch gears for my foodie lovers because Tulum has the most incredible food. Chefs from around the world create the most flavorful meals. One thing you have to do is have dinner in a nest. So this is something we had at our hotel. One reason I highly suggest the Orchid House Tulum is because you can have a private dinner in their own nest. Besides that, the nests are located at the most iconic hotel in Tulum, Azulik Tulum. This hotel is a DREAM hotel and I would honestly suggest anyone to stay there but it does cost a pretty penny. Even if you aren’t staying at Azulik, you can still make a reservation at Kin Toh for dinner in the sky. This is a great way also to explore the hotel and take the most vibey pictures ever. One thing to note though, MAKE A RESERVATION IN ADVANCE. Unfortunately, we didn’t make a reservation early enough so it was all sold out. Fortunately for us, we stayed at the Orchid House Tulum and got to still experience a mini nest. The reason I liked our next experience was because of how private the dinner was. Either way though, you won’t be disappointed. These pictures do not disappoint!

6. Something else that I enjoyed was heading to downtown Tulum. I loved it because one, it is way more budget-friendly and two, you feel more connected with the Mexican culture. You can head to Antojitos la Chiapaneca for the best tacos, Burrito Amor for the best burritos, or El Batey for incredible mojitos. After you indulge, you can go souvenir shopping. Downtown Tulum is a place to look into for accommodations if you are on a budget. It is about 20 minutes away from the beach/touristy area. The beach area can get overpriced so staying in Downtown Tulum could be an incredible way to save some money. You will find here too plenty of fun vibey restaurants to take cute pictures at.

7. Casa Malca is another vibey hotel that if you don’t stay at, you still need to check out. Casa Malca used to be an old mansion owned by Pablo Escobar but they have now turned it into a boutique hotel. Take your camera and cutest outfit here because you will most definitely find some picture-worthy spots. Also, Casa Malca is another option for a beach day. To have a lounge beach chair here it is a 50 USD minimum.

8. If you want to keep up with the latest Instagram vibes, a picture at the ‘Follow That Dream’ sign is the way to do that. I didn’t squeeze it into my trip but I regret it. It draws a crowd but it moves quickly and you can take a beautiful photo without wasting too much time. It is located at the Lolita & Lolita Boutique and is across the street from the Suenos Tulum.

9. Coco Tulum is another place that will give you some of the most beautiful beach views and Instagrammable photos. Their beach bar is beautiful and a great place to enjoy a relaxing drink. But the alcohol is not what makes it special. This beach bar is the bar that has the most iconic swings ever. You will most definitely get a fun and beautiful shot on those swings. Coco Tulum is a hotel that is another great option for accommodations.

10. Last but NOT least, take time to explore your hotel/accommodation. Even if you aren’t staying at the most expensive hotel, there is a high chance your accommodation has Instagrammable parts to it as well. I would also suggest seeing what your accommodation offers. We stayed at the Orchid House Tulum and they had yoga sessions and massages that we could book. It was also so enjoyable laying by the pool of our hotel and drinking Mezcal Mojitios. I enjoyed the relaxation that came from spending the afternoon in the sun with a book in one hand and a drink in the other.

Tulum can get stressful trying to fit everything into one trip because there is so much to do and see. I would suggest deciding on what places you would want to see the most and what Instagram picture you want the most. I would then build a schedule from there. Don’t forget, you do have my bespoke travel itineraries if you are interested in my assistance with planning the most perfect trip. Even if you don’t see everything you want, I promise you will have the most incredible time. Tulum’s bohemian laid-back beach town is the place to be right now and for good reasons. Enjoy!
