5 Inspiring Reasons To Go On A Service Trip

It’s pretty ironic because as I’m getting inspiration for this blog post I am currently 39,000 ft in the air. There’s nothing like the air pressure through my ears and being a tad bit light-headed to really give me blog post ideas. This post is really more of me just trying to convince you what your next trip should be. How about a service trip?!

My first ever service trip was a life-changing experience located in the beautiful country of Costa Rica.Β This volunteer program was able to bring me out of my comfort zone. I met fellow college students and professionals who started as strangers but ended up becoming new friends.Β

Although hard work, volunteer experiences are a great way, if not the best way, to see a country. You experience new languages, local communities, and different cultures. We put in hard work helping build an animal sanctuary and clean a local farm but we also got to experience Costa Rica for ourselves. The company I went with is called True Nature Education which also does a variety of yoga retreats. You can also check out this blog post for unique service ideas and inspiration.

The 5 Inspiring Reasons to Book your Service Trip

One: You can Give Back to Local Communities and Get Involved in a Local Community

The biggest takeaways that I experienced is how much of a positive impact we can have on a local community. It was such an overwhelmingly happy feeling knowing I was able to help those in need. Knowing that we have the ability to make a change and a positive difference is something we should all add to our travel list for 2023. Along with giving back, getting involved in a local community allows you to have a deeper cultural experience. You can’t get that deep involvement on a leisure trip.Β

Two: You Will Become More Socially Conscious

Going on a service trip or volunteer experience will most likely be in places that really have important social issues. You could possibly be experiencing places of extreme poverty. This could definitely be a culture shock. However, it allows you to become more educated about the different social issues others experience. In turn, this will also help you become more socially conscious in your day-to-day life.

Three: It’s a Great Way to Make New FriendsΒ

The people that I met on my service trip started as strangers and ended up becoming friends. When you work together through community service, it is easy to become friends. This is also the case for locals. Chances are, doing a volunteer trip will give you the opportunity to meet and engage with many locals. I can’t say the same, however, for other types of travel.Β

Four: It Can Give You a Sense of Accomplishment in Such a Unique Way

There is nothing quite like the feeling of being able to positively influence the lives of others. You will trulyΒ have a lasting impact. This unique experience will give you overwhelmingly emotional feelings that you can’t get anywhere else. It is something I hope everyone can experience. Making a positive change makes a difference in yourself.Β

Five: You Can Learn a Language

Going to a new country will definitely have a language barrier. However, thereΒ is no better way to learn a new language than being fully immersed in it. This professional takeaway can be impactful in your future to come. I would suggest if you are even thinking about learning a new language then you should definitely try volunteering and learning from the locals!
