Typical costs of Traveling Greece

Traveling to Greece, an enchanting Mediterranean gem, provides a range of budget-friendly options for visitors.

1. Transporation

When visiting the Greek Islands, walking is a common mode of transportation, supplemented by occasional taxi rides costing between 10 to 60 USD. Don’t overlook the cost of ferry rides, crucial for island hopping and traveling from the mainland to the islands. Ferry ticket prices vary based on the route and service class. Planning and booking ferry rides in advance is recommended, especially during peak travel seasons.

2. Accommodation

Greece is definitely a more budget friendly country but with that being said, it is still possible to spend up to 300 USD on accommodation. My suggestion for Greece is staying at an Airbnb. These can range anywhere from 30-150 USD. I have stayed in a few hostels in Greece and both weren’t the best experiences but that was mostly because we tried to pick the cheapest ones. If you plan on staying in a hostel, pick one that has good ratings and don’t be stressed to spend a little extra on them.

3. Food

Here is where you will definitely save money. You can expect to spend anywhere from 11 to 50 USD a day. That is not a bad deal am I right!

Currency: The official currency of Greece is the Euro (EUR). As of the time of writing, 1 EUR is equivalent to approximately 1.05 USD, but this exchange rate is subject to change, so it’s important to check the current rate closer to your travel date.

Credit Cards & ATMs: In Greece, most shops, restaurants, and hotels, particularly in larger cities and popular tourist destinations, widely accept credit cards for payments. However, it’s always a good idea to carry some cash, as smaller establishments, local markets, or remote areas might only accept cash payments.

Money Saving Tips
Opt for Off-Peak Travel: Traveling to Greece during the shoulder seasons (spring and autumn) can significantly reduce costs. During these times, you’ll find lower prices on accommodations and flights, and fewer crowds at popular tourist sites, offering a more authentic experience of Greek culture and daily life.

Eat Like a Local: Save money on food by dining where the locals eat. Avoid tourist-trap restaurants, especially those close to major attractions, and instead opt for smaller, family-run tavernas. You’ll enjoy authentic Greek cuisine at more affordable prices, and often in generous portions.

Use Public Transportation: Utilize Greece’s extensive public transportation system, especially in cities like Athens, to save on transportation costs. Buses and trains are much cheaper than taxis or car rentals and provide an efficient way to travel. For island hopping, consider booking economy-class ferry tickets well in advance for the best deals.

What Can You Expect from Santorini?

I really thought I was prepared to see Santorini ahead of time but you really can’t prepare to see the jaw-dropping views. I’m sure you have seen pictures of it online but I am warning you know, it was even more gorgeous in person. I really have nothing bad to say about Santorini. It is so beautiful, the people are so nice, the culture is incredible, and the views make every penny you spend worth. Also, a perfect place to get all the insta content.

Between its captivating ocean views and all-white architecture, Santorini surely does not disappoint.
