Ireland Travel Guide

If you are planning a visit, this Ireland travel guide is a must-read! The Emerald Isle captivated me with its enchanting beauty and elegance, proving itself to be a haven for artists and creatives. With its vibrant live music scene, breathtaking landscapes, and renowned Irish beer, Ireland offers a rich tapestry of cultural and natural wonders. Contrary to the typical weather expectations, my journey was mostly graced with sunshine, despite Ireland’s reputation for frequent rain, particularly during the wetter seasons. The warmth and hospitality of the Irish people stood out remarkably, making every visitor’s experience unforgettable. They truly know how to make you feel welcome, ensuring that your time spent in Ireland is filled with joy and memorable moments.

Besides just seeing the cities, there is so much vast nature in the countryside of Ireland. Don’t miss out on some of its true beauty. I was seriously in awe at the beautiful Cliffs of Moher. After visiting Ireland, I could easily move there. But I do say that about a lot of places.

Traveling to Ireland, an enchanting gem of the Emerald Isle, offers a wide range of experiences suitable for all types of travelers, regardless of budget.

1. Transporation

Exploring Ireland on foot is a viable and enriching experience, given its compact size; you could traverse significant parts of the country in just a few days. Walking not only offers an intimate way to discover Ireland’s charm but also ensures you don’t miss out on scenic details. For longer distances, buses serve as an economical transportation option, aligning well with a traveler’s budget. Yet, the allure of walking through Ireland’s landscapes remains unmatched. For those aiming to cover various regions across Ireland, renting a car is advisable. It provides the flexibility to explore at your own pace, though it’s essential to be comfortable with manual transmission and remember that driving is on the left side of the road, adding to the authentic Irish experience.

2. Accommodation

My stay at a hostel in Dublin was absolutely ideal. The atmosphere was incredibly welcoming, making it easy to feel at home among fellow travelers. Abigail’s Hostel, where I stayed, stood out for its hospitality and comfort. For accommodations in Ireland, I’d recommend considering either a hostel or an Airbnb for their value and local experience. Depending on your choice, accommodation costs can vary, with most options ranging from 50 to 150 USD, unless you’re opting for a luxury hotel, which would be on the higher end of the budget. This range allows for both affordable and more upscale lodging choices, catering to a variety of preferences and needs.

3. Food

Indulging in THE BEST Fish n’ Chips and enjoying a plethora of beers are quintessential parts of the Irish experience. On average, you might anticipate spending around 15 USD per meal. However, once you start pairing those delicious dishes with beer, be prepared for your dining expenses to increase accordingly. This estimate gives you a baseline, allowing for the occasional splurge on Ireland’s beloved pub culture and its hearty, comforting cuisine.

Currency: The official currency of Ireland is the Euro (EUR). As of the latest update, 1 EUR is equivalent to approximately 1.05 USD, but this exchange rate is subject to fluctuation, so it’s essential to verify the most current rate as your travel date nears.

Credit Cards & ATMs: In Ireland, most shops, restaurants, and hotels, especially in larger cities and key tourist areas, widely accept credit card payments. Nonetheless, it’s prudent to have some cash on hand, as smaller businesses, local markets, or remote areas may prefer or exclusively deal in cash transactions.

Money Saving Tips

Explore Free Attractions: Ireland is rich in culture and history, much of which can be enjoyed without a fee. Many museums, galleries, and historic sites offer free admission, and the country’s natural beauty, from its rugged coastlines to lush parks, can be explored at no cost. Plan your itinerary to include these free experiences.

Utilize Public Transportation and Passes: Take advantage of Ireland’s extensive public transportation network. In cities, buses and trams are cost-effective ways to get around, and for intercity travel, consider purchasing a rail pass if you plan to use the train frequently. This can offer significant savings over individual ticket purchases.

Eat like a Local: Save on dining by seeking out where locals eat. Traditional pubs often serve hearty and affordable meals, and many offer “early bird” or lunch specials with full meals at a fraction of the dinner price. Also, markets and local delis are great places to pick up fresh, inexpensive food for a picnic or snack.
