Typical costs of Traveling Sweden

Traveling to Sweden, a breathtaking Nordic destination, offers diverse budget options for visitors.

1. Transporation

Within the cities, Taxi rides will be significantly more than public transportation. Expect to spend on average 20 USD per taxi ride. You can get an unlimited 24-hour to an unlimited 365-day card depending on your needs. This is highly affordable and an easy way to get around the cities. If you are looking to travel from one city to the next in Sweden, you can expect to spend around 40 USD on a train or a bus ticket.

2. Accommodation

It isn’t a secret that Sweden can be on the more expensive side. However, you can find some cheap nightly stays at either 1-star hotels or hostels, these prices can range anywhere from 30-100 USD. If you are looking at getting nicer nights to stay in a hotel or an entire vacation rental you can expect to pay anywhere from 50-500 USD. It might be worthwhile if on a budget, staying a little farther away from the city center of the city you are visiting.

3. Food

We can’t go without eating, right? Just kidding, this is my favorite part of any destination. The average meal in Sweden is 15 USD and based on previous travelers the average cost per day for food is 30-40 USD. Although this may not be highly expensive, it can definitely add up.

Currency: The official currency of Sweden is the Swedish Krona (SEK). 1 SEK is equivalent to 0.098 USD and is subject to change depend on when you are reading this!

Credit Cards & ATMs: Many Swedish shops, restaurants, and hotels accept credit cards, especially in bigger cities that are often visited by tourists.

Money Saving Tips

Accommodation Utilize Efficient Public Transportation: In cities like Stockholm, public transportation is not only efficient but also cost-effective. Opt for multi-day travel cards which offer unlimited travel for a set period

Choose Economical Accommodations: Hostels are a great option for budget travelers, offering affordable dormitory beds. For a bit more privacy, private rooms in hostels or budget hotels are available at reasonable price.

Smart Dining and Drinking Options: Eating out for every meal can quickly add up. Opt for lunch specials at restaurants, which are often more affordable than dinner menus. Additionally, tap water in Sweden is safe to drink and free, so carrying a reusable water bottle can save you from buying bottled water.

What Can You Expect from Stockholm?

Stockholm, Sweden’s vibrant capital, nestles along the picturesque shores of the Baltic Sea, embodying a harmonious blend of urban and natural beauty. As the largest city in the country, it boasts an eclectic mix of attractions, ranging from historical museums and modern entertainment venues to breathtaking natural landscapes.

The city’s charm is amplified by its diverse architecture, where quaint, narrow cobblestone streets coexist with towering skyscrapers. A unique feature of Stockholm is its pristine waterways, so clean that they offer opportunities for drinking, swimming, and fishing right in the heart of the city. Stockholm encapsulates a full spectrum of experiences, making it a must-visit destination for any traveler.
