Florence Firenze
Florence is my favorite city in Europe. Maybe I’m partially biased because I was given the amazing opportunity to study abroad there for six amazing weeks. Florence is a walkable city and easy to get around.
Here is a list of what to do when visiting Florence
My favorite thing I have done in Florence is hike up the Piazzale Michelangelo. Yes, it is a bit of a hike but the view is so worth it. I suggest grabbing a bottle of wine and hiking up it just before the sunset. This is the best view in the city. If you don’t want to walk, you can also take buses 12 and 13 from the city center or take a taxi.
You must go see the Duomo. It is even more beautiful in person than in pictures. It is also located in the city center, so a great place to walk around and do any fun shopping. You can also climb to the top of the Duomo but I think the best views still come from the Piazzale Michelangelo, so save your money on this one. If you do want to go inside and to the roof it will be a cost of 18 euros for a ticket that does both.
Another great site to see is The David by Michelangelo. Out of the 6 weeks I was living there, I never once thought to go check it out. If I ever get the chance to go back, I will check it out.
Since Florence is a walkable city, I honestly suggest just roaming around and getting lost in the shopping and culture. If you do this, eventually you’ll run into every one of these sights I have suggested.
For all things nightlife, I would suggest visiting Space if you are into the club scene. If not, some bars I enjoyed but have two different vibes to them are the Brewdog Firenze and Daunbailo.
Weather in Florence
If you’re going anywhere with the beach then definitely go during summertime. But even then be prepared to be in the ocean all day long. Italy in the summer is extremely hot and quite miserable. I did not enjoy Florence too much during the summer because of the terrible heat. There is also no wind in Florence and most of the small towns of Italy during the mid-summer. I went back to Italy during the fall time, at the beginning of November, and enjoyed it much more. That might be just a personal reference but just to warn you, IT GETS HOT.
