How to Spend 24 Hours in New York City During the Christmas Season
New York City during the Christmas season is something you don’t want to miss. There is so much to do and see that will get you in the Christmas spirit. They light the Rockefeller tree the night of Thanksgiving and keep it lasted until usually January 2nd. So you have plenty of time to make it a little trip away. It will be cold in New York and hot inside any of the restaurants so dress warm but also in layers.
If you are staying the night here are some great hotel options that give you all the Christmas spirit
Lotte New York Place: $$$
I mean this hotel is stunning. If you are ready to splurge, you have to spend your night here. I’m honestly not sure if any other hotel does it as well as this one. They have a 30 ft tree and are only one block away from Sam’s Fifth Ave.
The Standard East Village: $$$
This hotel is located off Cooper Square. It’s a stunning hotel inside but what makes it so special during the Christmas season is their transformed garden. For the past few years, they’ve transformed this area into a chic igloo experience.
Hotel 31: $-$$
This won’t be your trendiest location or the most Christmas spirit but it has two major key factors. It is affordable and conveniently located. Within walking distance, you can reach Union Square Holiday Market or Madison Square Park.
Now check out my timeline of How to Spend a Day in NYC during the Christmas Season
First Stop
Grand Central Station
I honestly always start here because my family lives in Connecticut and we usually just take the train in. I love Grand Central and every time I’m there I am in awe. I would suggest finding yourself some good coffee and pastries on the below-ground level.
Next Stop
Soho
Head over to Soho for some fabulous shopping. You will find stores all along Broadway west to Sixth Ave. Soho shopping is going to be one of your trendy spots! They have a lot to choose from plus the area is one of my favorite areas in New York.
Stop For Lunch
NoMo Kitchen, SoHo
If you didn’t eat too much at Grand Central, head over to NoMo Kitchen located in Soho. It’s the cutest and trendiest place. The walkway into the restaurant is stunning. The food is incredible and so are the drinks. I highly suggest having lamb lollipops, they were amazing.
Next on The list
Christmas Market at Union Square
It is fun, beautiful, and full of Christmas cheer. There are usually more than 100 affordable booths. And what better way to support local businesses? It runs from 11 AM to 8 PM so plenty of time to check it off your list.
Next You Have to
Eataly
This has to be next because who doesn’t love walking around an Italian story? Honestly, I love to but what makes it such a gem is when you first walk in on your left, you will find a make your own Cannoli and it’s one of the best I’ve ever had. It is called Cannoli e Bombolini and it is hard to miss because there is usually a long line. It is worth the wait though.
You can’t miss this one
Igloo Bar
Sit back, relax, and enjoy a nice cocktail with views at the Igloo Bar located near the flat iron building (also a cool sight to see in general). It’s going to have the most beautiful views while being able to stay warm in trendy igloos. You will have a front-seat view of the Empire State Building. Don’t skip this one, it’s my favorite
Some More Shopping Next on the List
5th Ave Shopping
If you didn’t get any shopping done at Soho or if shopping is your middle name, 5th Ave is a great place to go next. I would suggest even if you aren’t in the market to buy anything, heading over to Gucci, Tiffany’s, Macy’s, and so much more! It’ll keep you occupied for a while.
Igloo Bar on Fifth Ave
Make a Pit Stop At
St. Patrick’s Cathedral
Head over to St Patrick’s Cathedral for a beautiful church that showcases stunning interior and exterior. Plus a beautiful place to worship.
Stay On Fifth Ave
5th Ave Light Show
Stay on fifth ave and in the area of the church for the next one because once it gets dark you are going to want to see it light up! Don’t miss the show of the beautiful lighting on the buildings. Plus make your way over to the Rockefeller tree for the most epic tree yet.
This Next One is Up To You
Ice Skating at Rockefeller or dinner at Rolfs or both if you have the time
You can most definitely send it and go ice skating at the Rockefeller Center but honestly, it’s not my favorite and gets so crowded you can barely even ice skate. Rather, I suggest, going to Rolfs Restaurant for the most decked-out Christmas decor and fun vibes. If this doesn’t get you into the spirit I’m not sure what will.
