One Perfect Day Itinerary for San Antonio, Texas
San Antonio is the perfect place to enjoy good Mexican food, rich history, and a lot of fun. San Antonio is perched far beyond the Texas hill country. If you are visiting Austin or other parts of southern Texas, consider San Antonio as a perfect road trip away.Β
The best time to visit San Antonio is definitely not the middle of the summer. Although it is definitely manageable it might not be ideal especially if you hate extremely hot weather. Besides that, most of the other seasons are perfect times to visit. And yes, it does still get chilly during the winter.Β
My husband is from San Antonio so you can only bet this itinerary is the best way to spend one day. Out of all the places in the United States, there is nothing quite like this beautiful and quaint city. Definitely keep reading for the most fun things to do in just one short day.Β
Start Your Day at the Riverwalk
One of the biggest staples that San Antonio is known for is the river walk. It is the perfect place to start your day because you can indulge in a nice breakfast, have coffee from a cute cafe, or take a boat tour on the San Antonio River before it gets too busy.Β
Visit the Alamo
First, you can’t visit San Antonio without visiting the city’s most historic building. Secondly, you can walk to it from the riverwalk making it an easy next spot to visit. The Alamo represents Texas’ independence and freedom. During the battle, the Alamo was occupied by Mexican troops. It is free to enter and explore, making it a place you can’t miss on your day trip to San Antonio
Climb the Tower of the Americas
Just south of the Alamo is the Tower of the Americas. The Tower of the Americas is roughly 750 feet tall and when at the top, provides the most stunning birds-eye view. Regular admission costs 14 USD which brings you to the observation deck at the top. It is a great adventure for those traveling with kids because there is a 4D theatre experience. At the top, you can also find a restaurant and bar for those wanting a cocktail with a view.
Mi Tierra and Historic Market Square
The historic market square is where San Antonio’s culture really comes alive. It is three blocks long and is lined with shopping, restaurants, and both locals and tourists. It is located in downtown San Antonio and you can explore 100 locally-owned stalls. Market Square is the largest Mexican market in the United States and is the perfect place to find a yummy lunch spot. Out of all the stalls, a crowd favorite between tourists and locals alike is Mi Tierra. Mi Tierra is located in the heart of the historic market square and is the perfect spot to enjoy authentic Tex-Mex-style food all while watching Mariachis play live music!
King William Historic District
The King William Historic District is located just south of downtown San Antonio, a perfect spot to visit after indulging in the historic market square. King William Historic District is known for having some of the most beautiful and authentic homes in all of San Antonio. It was home to many German immigrants and is now designated as the Cultural Arts District. King William Historic District is located within Southtown which houses the largest running artworks. You can definitely find many art galleries and breweries in this part of town.
Visit One of the Missions
As I have mentioned before, San Antonio is full of rich history. Aside from the Alamo, there are other missions in San Antonio that are worth a visit. There are actually four other missions including San Juan Mission, San Jose Mission, Mission Espada, and Mission Concepcion. As a whole, they make up a UNESCO world heritage site. If you are only in San Antonio for a day trip, I would highly suggest just picking one of the four to visit. The four missions can take up to a day if you want to visit them all.Β
The Pearl
The Pearl is one of my favorite and newer spots to have been developed in San Antonio. The Peal is San Antonio’s #1-weekend hangout spot. It is next on the list because it is the perfect place to enjoy a nice but casual dinner. The pearl encompasses casual dining, shopping, breweries, and a large plaza great for bringing the pups! They have a food market and a lot of local-inspired restaurants, you won’t go hungry. Hotel Emma is also a trendy spot to enjoy a cocktail and even a great place to stay if you decide to stay the night. You can’t miss this cute and trendy part of San Antonio.
Indulge in San Antonio’s Nightlife
It is time to return to the riverwalk because it is the perfect place to indulge in San Antonio’s nightlife. If you followed this itinerary and saw it in the morning, it is much different at night. It is a lot more lively with crowds of people and the trees being lit up by soft illuminating lights. One of my favorite spots and I think the best place to have a night out is Durty Nelly’s Irish Pub. They have live music and it is always such a blast.Β
Have a drink and explore the menger hotel
The Menger Hotel is a historic staple of the community. When you step inside the Victorian lobby you will be transported back in time. It is not only stunning on the inside, but the Spanish-style courtyard is also a treat to see. Enjoy a nice cocktail at the bar because not only is this hotel full of history it is also HAUNTED (supposedly).Β
