Punta De Mita Travel Guide

Punta de Mita is definitely one of Mexico’s hidden gem. While most people when traveling to Mexico go to Cancun or Cabo, I have truly fallen in love the with chill atmosphere that Punta De Mita has to offer. A Punta De Mita travel guide will give you everything you need to know to have the perfect getaway.

Located on the Pacific coast, Punta de Mita offers beautiful white sand beaches, beach clubs, yummy seafood, live music, and so much more. With its astounding amount of sunshine, it offers year-round beauty. The endless days of sunshine offer a long peak season which is usually between January to July. My only dislike about this destination was how cold the water is compared to the Gulf of Mexico.

How to Get to Punta de Mita

Punta de Mita is locate in Nayarit, Mexico. Your easiest and probably least expensive option is flying into PVR: My best suggestion is to use Skyscanner to find the cheapest flights available, you can look at flights using this link. Puerto Vallarta Airport. From there you can either get to Punta Mita by bus, rent a car, shuttle service, or taxi. I wouldn’t suggest a taxi because it is the most expensive and also I don’t suggest renting a car because you won’t necessarily need one when you get there. If you decide on a bus, there is a station right at the airport that brings you to Bucerías and then from Bucerías to Punta Mita. A shuttle service is what we did and is a great option. There are many different options to choose from when searching on google.

Where to Stay in Punta De Mita

I would suggest staying here if you plan on traveling with a big group or an entire family. They have great options and pricing for beachfront homes or condos that can fit 4+ persons. Since it is a home it has a full kitchen and ours even had its pool.

Punta De Mita Travel Guide

This hotel is located right next store to the property we stayed at and if I ever go back I will 100% stay at the W. It is such a fun and lively hotel that offers incredible restaurants, oceanfront views, and much more. Although a little bit pricier, it hits the mark with its interior decor and amenities. You have to get their brunch at their Mexican restaurant, Venazú, it’s all-you-can-eat for standard price.

What to do in Punta de Mita

Go to the Beach or Beach Clubs

As far as beach clubs go there are plenty to choose from. Pacifico is a crowd favorite and is located in the Four Seasons hotel. It is iconic because it looks over the “Tail of the Whale” ocean hole, it has a few pools, and even a children’s playground. Kupuri beach club is also popular because it is only reserved for Club Premier Members and offers luxury beach club services. As far as beaches go there are plenty to choose from and they all don’t disappoint. They are some of the most beautiful beaches with white sand and ever-stunning ocean views. I would suggest the following, Riviera Nayarit, Playa Punta de Mita, Playa la Lancha, Banderas Bay, and Litibú Beach.

Go Hiking

A popular hike to do in Punta de Mita is Monkey Mountain. The hike duration is about 4 hours but gives you panoramic views of Punta de Mita and Nayarit. It is about a 10-minute drive from the coast and is a perfect hiking trip. If you are looking for something a bit more challenging with even more mountainous views, then I would suggest making the trip to the Sierra Madre Mountains. It is a 15-hour drive so not something you can do on a day trip but it is a great add-on to the end of the trip!

Take a Day Trip to Sayulita

From Punta de Mita to Sayulita it is about a 20-minute drive and worth every second. Sayulita was one of my favorite spots on the trip because it was lively with its wonderful restaurants and trendy shopping stores. It is considered a surf town but with it growing fast it truly reminded me of Tulum before Tulum blew up and got overpriced. You can take a bus or a taxi to get there and it wasn’t too expensive. It may be an option to stay a couple of nights there as well since it is such a fun walkable town. You can also do a day trip to San Pancho which is just a little farther north from Sayulita. San Pancho, also known as San Francisco, is known to be a foodie’s paradise.

Go Golfing

If you love golfing this one is for you, Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Courses has one right in Punta Mita. It is called, Tail of the Whale Hole 3B, and looks like a beautiful spot for golfing with its pacific ocean views.

Go on a Boat Tour
We did a boat tour (The Fat Cat) from Ally Cat Sailing offered an open bar and all-you-can-eat food. I enjoyed this boat tour because we had the opportunity to go snorkeling, visit the Marietas islands (which are uninhabited), and we got to whale watch and saw humpback whales. I highly suggest it, was worth every penny!

If I had enough time I would have loved to have tried it. Scuba diving, especially if you go Banderas Bay,  looks absolutely stunning. You will see incredible sea creatures!

Enjoy Seafood at La Pescadora or Meat at The W Restaurant

This is a popular restaurant to visit and has 4.7 star rating on google. Although we didn’t eat here, it is known to have the best seafood in Punta de Mita. We did have the pleasure of going to the restaurant at the W and had the most amazing meat-filled meal. A short rib and incredible bone marrow!
